Brendan has been home for a while now (almost 3 months minus a week to Denver...) His next job assignment is coming up in April. It's been very nice to have him around for so long! It is harder for me to focus on school because I just want to go have fun with him...
He has been SO kind about helping me get ready in the morning... making me coffee and breakfast :) I even came home to a clean house the other day!
We've been going to church events and having dinner with different church families. There's a new couple we just met from Australia. They are here for a 6 month (I believe) doctor internship. ---don't ask me the details, I don't understand. Anyways, we've had them over for dinner and games. Brad evidently LOVES board games. His wife Simone and I have had some really fun discussions on things like genetics and animals.
This past week of school has been rough. Just a lot of work all packed together. We had 2 recording session last week. Brendan came to the second recording and it was honestly really nice to have him there. Kind of calming to have his support. It was also interesting to hear a non-musician talk about what he observed of the session too. Afterwards he and I took the train out of the town to Blackrock and had a lovely dinner and a couple drinks.
My hand is sadly hurting again... AND to add to it, I smashed it in the metal laundry rack last Thursday. It's still very swollen and zings my whole arm when the top of my hand gets touched... Sooooo I am going to the doc tomorrow to make sure it isn't fractured. That'd be ridiculous if it is...
I have these next two days off of classes BUT have to finish a new composition by Monday. It shouldn't be as bad as the last one. That was for a mini orchestra of 20 musicians composed to an animation cue. We then had to conduct it ourselves with a click track (a "metronome" to make sure all the spots in the movie are "hit" musically right on). It was the most in-depth cue I believe we've done but I thought it was fun. A lot of technology went into it, so it was stressful to set up and make sure all was correct and ready to go for the recording. I still have to go back into the composition and add sampled instruments to make it sound more like a 60 piece orchestra... then turn it in... This next composition is a 25 piece string orchestra. I find composing just for strings a LOT easier because when you have different timbre instruments, like oboe and trumpet, you have to really consider how you use them. Strings, pretty much, sound the same... just higher and a lower... I'm being a little facetious, but not by much. We got to pick the movie cue to "re-write" for this assignment. I am doing the last scene in "Big Fish"... It's the funeral where all the characters in his dad's stories are revealed to have had a little bit of truth in them. There's no dialogue to worry about so it should be fairly straight forward and a good piece for my portfolio.
After that we have a little break. We have the week of Easter off.. Then we get to compose for a "game" --- actually, a fake sequel to a game. Still, that should be interesting.
Some new Irish-isms
- "good enough for ya" = when something goes bad and they "deserved" what they got
- "good enough for them" if it's a group of people, and "good enough for ye" if your from the country :)
- "Hot drop" = top off your tea
- "All over the shop" = mad busy... "She's all over the shop" = "She's very busy"
- "Keep it handy" = relax or "take it easy"
